DC seeks strict action against erring drivers, asks for retrials to issue fresh license

REASI, OCTOBER 18: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan today chaired the District Road Safety Committee meeting to deliberate on implementation of road Safety Plan in the district.


The meeting extensively discussed the road safety action plan, the Road Safety Act, installation of road signage and traffic calming measures. Seeking strict action against habitual violators, the DC directed transport officials to cancel driving licenses of drivers causing road accidents and issue new one only after they get a driving test pass certificate.


The DC directed XENs from PWD and PMGSY to identify critical sharp turns on roads with deep gorges and install crash barriers at these spots. He also called for timely submission of an audit report of road safety and bridges to his office. He also instructed them to draw zebra crossings outside education institutions. Additionally, the DC emphasized the immediate start of a special drive by police, traffic and transport for organising Nakkas in view of the upcoming festival Season.


To increase awareness, the DC suggested launching informative campaigns in schools and colleges to educate students on road etiquettes, road safety and traffic rules.
Chief medical officer was instructed to constitute an emergency response team to deal with road accidents.
