DCC Rural celebrates 79th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi
Mula Ram, Yogesh, Hari Singh vows to work relentlessly as messengers of peace & harmony by following Rajiv Gandhi’s ideals
JAMMU, AUG 20: District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Rural today celebrated the 79th birth anniversary of the late party stalwart and former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi ji during a programme held at Jammu North Assembly segment.
The programme was organised by Hari Singh Chib, President DCC Jammu Rural in which Mula Ram former Minister, Yogesh Sawhney former Minister, Block Presidents, senior leaders of DCC and BCC and locals of Ward No 60 Paloura paid heartfelt tributes to the former Prime Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Mula Ram described Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of Panchayat Raj System in India. He said during his leadership he fulfilled the dreams of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to devolve powers of planning and development to the grass root institutions of democracy, so that the people shape their own destiny as per their needs. He asserted that it was Rajiv Gandhi who translated the concept of participatory democracy at the grass root levels.
While paying rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, Yogesh Sawhney referred to number of achievements of the former Prime Minister during his leadership and said that country emerged as leader of the World in Information Technology due to his great vision for the youth, whom he gave a direction for meeting the challenges of 21st Century successfully.
Hari Singh Chib, President DCC Jammu Rural described Rajiv Gandhi as a visionary leader who led the nation to great achievements in various fields. He will be remembered for his youth policy to prepare them for the present day challenges.
Chib said that Rajiv Gandhi deserves full appreciation for the historic decisions taken by him especially that of lowering the voting age from 21 years to 18 years in order to ensure that the youth of the country have full participation in the democratic system. He asserted that it was the result of this decision that as of today the young generation takes lead in politics to serve the nation with young ideas. He said that Rajiv Gandhi’s achievements are unprecedented and vast despite his short stint in politics.
The programme concluded with taking of pledge by all those present on the occasion to work relentlessly as messengers of peace and harmony by sacredly following Rajiv Gandhi’s ideals.
