DDC Chairman launches Watershed Yatra Campaign-2025 at Panchayat Ghar Berarru in Doda

Event features series of activities to promote sustainable Water Management


DODA, FEBRUARY 9: The Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), under the aegis of Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, J&K, today organized the Watershed Yatra Campaign-2025 here at Panchayat Ghar Berarru, Block Bhalla, District Doda.


The initiative aims to promote sustainable water conservation techniques, watershed management, and the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY 2.0) to improve irrigation efficiency.


The campaign was chaired by District Development Council (DDC) Chairman, Dhananter Singh Kotwal, who emphasized the importance of watershed management in enhancing agricultural productivity and improving rural livelihoods.
The DDC Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Rani, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Musharraf Haf and other government functionaries and local residents were present at the event. They highlighted the need for community participation in preserving water resources and adopting modern irrigation techniques.


Experts from IWMP and the Rural Development Department briefed the locals on scientific watershed planning, soil conservation measures, and the significance of rainwater harvesting in water-scarce areas.


Farmers and panchayat representatives were encouraged to actively engage in watershed projects to ensure long-term environmental sustainability and improve groundwater recharge.


During the discussions, officials emphasized the convergence of government schemes like MGNREGA and PMKSY to maximize benefits for rural communities.
The panel also addressed concerns regarding water scarcity, deforestation, and soil erosion in hilly terrains, suggesting practical solutions such as contour farming, afforestation drives, and efficient irrigation methods.


The event concluded with an interactive session, where farmers and local representatives shared their experiences and sought expert guidance on effective watershed management. Additionally, a plantation drive was conducted as part of the campaign.


The Chief Executive Officer, IWMP J&K, reiterated the government’s commitment to sustainable rural development and water conservation initiatives. The Watershed Yatra Campaign-2025 is expected to raise awareness and mobilize collective action towards improving water resource management across Doda district.
The plantation drive was also conducted during the event.
