DEERS hosts Symposium, painting competition at GBHSS Sarwal

JAMMU, MAY 31: The Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, Jammu celebrated World No Tobacco Day on the theme “Protecting Children from tobacco industry interference” at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Sarwal.


The event was organized to raise awareness about the importance of the day. During the event a symposium/painting competition was organised on the subject “Smoking free Environment in schools”


A skit was presented by a group of students based on smoking among peer groups and its repercussions.


Ravinder Kumar Raina, Principal of the School joined the occasion and shared his success story, how he quit the habit of smoking after 20 big years.


Sajad Ahmad Khan, Environment Soil Conservationist, DEERS, praised the students for their eloquent speeches regarding dangers of tobacco use and emphasized that education is the only way that could play a pivotal role to save the children from this nuisance particularly, the age group of 13 to 15 years who are targeted easily. He also highlighted the consequences of tobacco consumption on health, economic and social wellbeing of society.
