Delhi: 14-Year-old orphan rescued from brothel, alleged trafficker arrested
New Delhi [India], July 16 (ANI): A rescue operation by Delhi Police and the Manobal NGO resulted in the liberation of a 14-year-old orphan girl from a brothel on Shradhanand Marg, Ajmeri Gate.
Acting on a tip-off received on July 12, 2024, authorities swiftly responded to reports of the minor’s exploitation in the sex trade.
Upon arrival, DCP Central M Harsha Vardhan and his team found the girl in the custody of Anjali alias Meena, a 42-year-old resident of 42, Shradhanand Marg. The minor was promptly rescued and taken to a secure shelter. NGO counsellors provided immediate support, conducting counselling sessions to assess the girl’s well-being and gather crucial information about her ordeal.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been trafficked to the brothel a few days prior by Anas from Zakir Nagar, Okhla, Delhi. Medical examinations at Lok Nayak Hospital on July 13 confirmed her physical condition, and her statement was recorded by police. Subsequently, a case has been filed under provisions of the Bonded Labour System (BNS) Act, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITP Act), and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Kamla Market Police Station, Delhi.
Hailing from Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, the victim had come to Delhi seeking employment but tragically fell victim to exploitation. The vigilance of All Women Police Personnel at SN Marg, supported by PS Kamla Market, ensured a swift response to prevent further exploitation in the area.
Anjali alias Meena, accused of trafficking and exploiting the minor, was arrested at the scene and has been remanded to judicial custody following legal proceedings before a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC).
