Delhi Crime Branch arrests robber after shootout
New Delhi [India], October 25 (ANI): The Delhi police arrested a desperate robber and snatcher after a shootout, said officials on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Raja (27), who is a resident of Delhi’s Burari, was apprehended and a case under Sections 186, 353 and 307 of the IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act was registered at the Crime Branch police station, said the police.
According to the information received from the police, a stolen motorcycle and two stolen mobile phones were also recovered from his possession.
The officials said that secret information was received that the wanted criminal, Raja, in order to commit some heinous crime, was going to go to Gurugram via Delhi’s Aruna Asal Ali Road in Vasant Kunj.
The input that the police had received also mentioned that the accused is always in possession of firearms and weapons, and he would not hold back from open firing at the police team as well.
Acting upon the received input, a police team was constituted to nab the criminal. The team, along with their informant, reached Sanjay Van, Aruna Asaf Ali Road, and started picket checking.
The police further said that at around 1:30 am, a motorcycle coming from Delhi’s Katwaria Sarai was intercepted during the check and signalled to stop, but the bike rider tried to flee and started firing on police while doing so.
The police team fired two rounds in self-defence and in order to apprehend the biker. The accused, Raja, was eventually apprehended by the police after he sustained a bullet injury to his right leg during the exchange of fire.
He was immediately shifted to Safdurjang Hospital for treatment, said the police.
As per the information received from police, the apprehended accused disclosed during the interrogation that on October 9, 2023, he, along with his two associates, was going to Haryana’s Bahadurgarh in a car, and they were signalled to stop during the checking by the police team of the Baldi police station.
The accused, in his confession, further said that he escaped the police checking by the Badli police team by ramming the car into the barricades.
Accordingly, a case under Sections 186, 353 and 332 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered at Badli police station, after which the accused had been absconding till date.
During further interrogation, the accused, Raja, confessed to the theft of a motorcycle from the area of Mangol Puri police station and two mobile phones from the area of Timarpur police station.
The apprehended accused has been found to be involved in more than 30 criminal cases, said police.
