Delhi: Education Minister Atishi, Mayor Shelly Oberoi meet IIM-Ahmedabad trained MCD school principals
New Delhi [India], August 18 (ANI): Delhi Education Minister Atishi and Mayor Shaili Oberoi on Sunday interacted with 48 principals of MCD schools who returned after a five-day training from IIM Ahmedabad, according to an official statement.
On this occasion, the principals shared their experiences related to every aspect learned in the training, including their leadership training at IIM, giving good education to children and making parents partners in education.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Atishi said that the zeal and enthusiasm of the principals who returned after training from IIM is worth seeing.
“Whenever we talk about government schools, their teachers and principals, the whole country has a concept that they are indifferent. But I am happy that our principals have worked to break this notion. Our principals will spread their enthusiasm, zeal and positivity to the teachers and children of their school,” Atishi said.
She said that Arvind Kejriwal believes that unless teachers get world-class exposure, they cannot provide world-class education to children. “That is why we have sent the principals of MCD schools to IIM for training so that they get world-class training and then use it to improve their schools.”
She said, “We want teachers and principals to give excellent education to our school children. Every child studying in school should feel that they are important to you and they should not be afraid of coming to school.”
The Education Minister said there is no one else to guide the children who are coming to government schools and give them a chance to move forward except their teachers and principals.
“If we are not able to give those children a chance, then perhaps these children will never get a chance again. In such a situation, the responsibility of the principals of government schools increases further, the more positively they give these children a chance, the more successful these children will become. There is no lack of talent in these children, they just need to be guided,” the statement said
Atishi further said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s vision is to give the same education to every child of Delhi as he gave to his own children. He said that it is “our responsibility to fulfill this vision, so we are sending our teachers to IIM. And it is a matter of happiness for us that so far more than 350 MCD principals have received training from various IIMs. And in the coming time more principals will go for training.
On this occasion, Mayor Shelly Oberoi claimed that before 2022, there was no attention given to teachers and principals in the MCD schools. But after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government, “we gave full respect to our teachers and principals.” She said that a principal has the responsibility of running the entire school as they are responsible for everything from children’s education to the school’s infrastructure.
“Our principals will be able to fulfill this responsibility well only when they are able to manage everything better. Therefore, to improve the management and leadership skills of our school principals, we are sending them for training at the country’s top management institute IIM,” she said.
Shelly Oberoi said the government has fulfilled its responsibility of providing the best training to principals. “Now our principals should fulfill their responsibility of providing the best education to every child studying in MCD schools.”
She said the day is not far when the MCD schools will also become as great as Delhi Government schools and will be famous in the country and the world.
On this occasion, the principals of MCD schools who returned from the training at IIM Ahmedabad, said before this, no one had thought about the betterment of the teachers of MCD schools. But we are very happy that now we are getting full respect along with facilities from the government. Earlier we used to struggle for basic facilities but now we are getting better training. The principals said that they will work hard to fulfil the vision of education with which the government sent them for training at IIM and will make every possible effort to transform their schools into world-class institutions where quality education will be ensured for every child, the statement said.
Parul Jain, a principal, said, “Going to an institute like IIM Ahmedabad was like a dream. At first, I felt that the professors here prepare the top managers of the world, they would not know the ground reality of MCD schools. But during the training, this illusion of mine broke. Here we were respected like VIPs.”
Echoing similar views, Principal Sushila Kumari said she felt very proud when her name came on the list to go to IIM. “Whatever we learnt during the training here, we will use it to improve the learning environment in our school. Here we learnt how to eliminate absenteeism in children by making parents partners in the school,” she said.
Another MCD school Principal Ratna Arora said that “we can solve not just one problem but every problem of life along with those being faced in the school with what we learnt from IIM.”
Another principal said by sending them to IIM, the government made them feel special, and now “We will make our school children feel special. Through this training, the government has given us an opportunity to make our schools even better and give better education to the children studying here. Whatever we learnt from here, we will use it to solve the problems of the school.”
