Delhi Mayor moves High Court for political clearance to travel to Australia
New Delhi [India], October 3 (ANI): Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi on Tuesday moved Delhi High Court challenging the delay in granting political clearance for travel to Brisbane, Australia to attend the Asia Pacific Cities Summit 2023.
The matter was mentioned before the Delhi High Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chander Sharma for an urgent hearing. The bench noted the submissions and said the matter will be taken up on Wednesday.
Appearing for Oberoi, her counsel mentioned the matter and stated that there is urgency in the matter because the Mayor has to travel on October 9.
According to the plea, the Delhi Mayor had requested permission to participate in the Asia Pacific Cities Summit-2023 in Brisbane city under due process. This summit is to be held between October 11 to October 13 this year.
It stated that till now the file related to Mayor Oberoi’s visit had not been given permission by the Ministry of External Affairs.
In a press statement it stated that the Mayor has requested to participate in the summit because it will be of immense benefit to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The summit will witness the exchange of ideas and achievements between mayors, policymakers, business leaders etc.
In this summit held earlier in 2019, Mayors from all over the world represented more than 9.9 crore people. In such a situation, the agreements of this Mayor Summit can have a direct impact on people’s lives, stated the press statement.
