Deptt of Social Welfare-Sankalp HEW-Mission Shakti Srinagar organizes Distribution Camp under BBBP

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 10: The Department of Social Welfare, SANKALP- Hub For Empowerment of Women (HEW)- Mission Shakti Srinagar today organised an event for distribution of educational kits for needy enrolled female students and linking & strengthening Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at Faqir Gujri (Harwan Block) of Srinagar.

The programme started with awareness generation to the public in general and girls in particular about menstrual health and hygiene, the onset of menstruation means a new phase – and new vulnerabilities – in the lives of adolescents. Yet, many adolescent girls face stigma, harassment and social exclusion during menstruation.

Gender inequality, discriminatory social norms, cultural taboos, poverty and lack of basic services like toilets and sanitary products can all cause menstrual health and hygiene needs to go unmet. Menstrual health and hygiene interventions can help overcome these obstacles. Not only do they fulfill the unmet demand for menstrual hygiene products; they also protect dignity, build confidence, and strengthen sexual and reproductive health, particularly among adolescents.

Concluding the program, educational Kits and menstruation Kits were distributed among girls.
