Dharmarth Trust pays rich tributes to Maharaja Ranbir Singh on 139th Death Anniversary

JAMMU, Sept 12: The J&K Dharmarth Trust today paid glowing tributes to Maharaja Ranbir Singh, the visionary ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 139th death anniversary in a solemn ceremony organized at the historic Ranbireshwar Temple, Jammu.

On the occasion, Brig R.S Langeh (Retd), President of Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Council, led the tribute, recalling the monumental contributions of Maharaja Ranbir Singh, whose reign was marked by significant social, cultural, and administrative reforms.

“Maharaja Ranbir Singh’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of his subjects and his visionary approach to governance continue to inspire generations,” he said and emphasized how the Maharaja’s contributions, particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, laid a solid foundation for the region’s progress.

He, while highlighting the warrior qualities of late Maharaja Ranbir Singh, said that it was he who went on to annex Gilgit which had previously witnessed a rebellion against the state and the princely states of Hunza and Nagar started paying tributes to Jammu and Kashmir during his reign. Even in the field of justice Maharaja Ranbir Singh established a modern judicial system compiling civil laws and compiling criminal laws in the form of Ranbir Penal Code during his reign, he added.

Maharaja Ranbir Singh, the third son of Maharaja Gulab Singh, ascended to the throne in August 1854, and his reign lasted until his passing on September 12, 1885. Under his rule, the kingdom flourished, with notable advancements in arts, architecture, and governance. His legacy endures through numerous initiatives that continue to benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir today.Varinder Singh Jamwal, Additional Secretary and staff members of J&K Dharmarth Trust, were also present and paid tributes to Maharaja Ranbir Singh.
