The purpose of celebrating Crop Insurance Week was to launch a mass awareness campaign from 1st to 7th of July, 2023 and ensure maximum enrolment of the farmers under the Crop Insurance scheme for Kharif-2023.
The van campaign is being organized by IFFCO, TOKIO Insurance Company in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Jammu under Pardhan Mantri Fasal BhimaYojna (PMFBY) to inform farmers about the Insurance scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director emphasised that the Fasal Bima Yojna will go a long way in mitigating the financial risk of the farmers suffering from the crop losses and aid in stabilizing their income. This will also ensure flow of credit in the Agriculture Sector.
The Director informed that the awareness Van will cover all the panchayats of Jammu District to promote Pardhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) and its coverage among the farming community.
Highlighting the achievements under the scheme, he stated that till date 1 lakh farmers in Jammu Division have benefited from PMFBY with disbursement of an amount to the tune of Rs 96 crore as settlement of claims to these beneficiaries.
The Director further informed that 50,000 farmers have already enrolled under the scheme in Jammu Division well before the cut-off date of July 15th. He urged farmers to enroll under the scheme to avail the benefits against weather-vagaries for the notified crops, including Paddy and Maize in the Kharif season and Wheat in the Rabi season with a minimal premium of 2% (Kh)/ 1.5% (Rabi season) as per the Scale of Finance.
The Director also expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor, Sh Manoj Sinha for launching the PMFBY scheme on February 24th, 2023 in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory for the benefit of farmers.
Joint director Agriculture (Inputs), JD (SLUB) besides Officials from IFFCO TOKIO (PMFBY) Jammu and Reliance Insurance Company were also present on the occasion.
