Director Agriculture visits Potato SMF Bosian Baramulla

BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 20: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today visited Potato Seed Multiplication Farm (SMF) Bosian Baramulla.
During the visit, the Director inspected different blocks of the farm and interacted with technical experts and staff of the said farm.


Speaking on the occasion, Director said that from last few years department is vigorously working for the transformation of departmental seed multiplication farms.


He said that department is also endeavouring to ensure that only quality seed reaches the farming community of the region. “We are pursuing a plan to achieve self reliance in seed production and departmental farms are of pivotal importance in this direction,” he added.


He asked the officers to put in all the efforts so that not only the local potato requirement is fulfilled but potato from Kashmir is supplied to different parts of the country.


Director Agriculture said that the department has strengthened the marketing mechanism of different agriculture crop. He asked young agri-preneurs to come forward and take potato cultivation on commercial lines. There is a great scope for value addition of this crop, he added.


He said in coming days potato would be one of the significant contributors towards the agriculture economy of Jammu & Kashmir.
