Director Fisheries initiates Trout stocking in Gurez

Also inaugurates survey cum inspection hut at Dawar

BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 29: Director Fisheries, Mohammad Farooq Dar today initiated the stocking of an impressive 5,000 trout fingerlings in the Kishenganga River with an aim to bolster the local economy by promoting sustainable fisheries and generate employment opportunities in the Gurez sub-division of district.

He also inaugurated a survey cum inspection hut in Dawar, Gurez, established at an estimated cost of 36.52 lakhs, indicating a significant investment in infrastructure.

Furthermore, as part of this initiative supported by NHPC grants, two pairs of American Raceways were also introduced at the trout unit in Wanpora, Gurez, a project completed at an estimated cost of 16.32 lakhs. The addition of two more pairs of American type of raceways will double the production capacity of this unit from 4 tons to 8 tons.

The Director on the occasion emphasized on the government’s commitment to advancing trout culture not only in the Kashmir Valley but also throughout Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the government is fully committed to support initiatives that promote trout culture, which shall have positive impact on the region.

The Assistant Director Fisheries, Showkat Ahmad, highlighted the department’s tireless efforts to encourage employment in trout fish farming. He urged the youth to come forward and engage with the department to take advantage of government employment-generating schemes.

At the last leg of his tour to district Bandipora, Director Fisheries interacted with the fisherman community at Zurimanz village situated on the periphery of Wular lake and listened to their grievances.

While interacting with them, he assured that all of their genuine demands will addressed promptly.

The director on the occasion also handed over new Boat to the field functionaries of department at Zuriamnz beat for carrying out anti poaching operations to curb any illegal fishing by the poachers.
