Director Horticulture visits Kupwara; engages with farming community, participates in Awareness camp
SRINAGAR, July 01: Director Horticulture Kashmir, G.R. Mir today visited district Kupwara to reach out to the farmers in far-flung areas and gain first-hand information about the region’s horticultural landscape.
During the tour, Director Horticulture actively engaged with the farming community and participated in an awareness camp, which witnessed the attendance of a substantial number of farmers and members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
The Director Horticulture attentively listened to the challenges faced by the area regarding the fruit industry.
Recognizing the untapped potential of the region, he directed the Horticulture Department of District Kupwara to explore the possibility of cultivating high-yielding fruit varieties in the area. He also visited the Dudi Nursery and closely examined the various developmental activities taking place there.
Later, Director conducted a comprehensive review of the department’s functioning in the area, ensuring that it aligns with the needs and aspirations of the farming community.
To uplift the fruit industry of Machil, a remote area where commercial fruit cultivation is currently limited, Director assured the introduction of new Elite and high-yielding varieties of fruit plants.
“Expanding fruit cultivation in far-flung areas is not only crucial for the economic development of the region but also plays a significant role in transforming the lives of our farmers,” said Director Horticulture.
He further added that the department is committed to explore the potential of these areas and provide the necessary support to foster sustainable horticulture practices.
The Director was accompanied by District Horticulture Officer Kupwara and other field functionaries of the department.
