District Admin Reasi observes International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

REASI, JUNE 26: The District Administration Reasi, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, organized a significant event to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The theme for this year’s event was “The Evidence is Clear: Invest In Prevention.”


The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan, as the chief guest. Students from different educational institutions participated actively, presenting insightful speeches on drug abuse.


A series of activities were held including dance performances, poetry recitation, singing, Nukkad Natak, and demonstration of yoga asanas for healthy life and to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.


In his address, the DC emphasized the urgent need to eliminate drugs from society. He urged parents to monitor their children’s behavior regularly, while encouraging the community to immediately report drug related trafficking to the district administration and police. He also announced that a drug rehabilitation center building would soon be completed in Reasi. He informed that drug testing kits have been provided to schools and colleges to aid in prevention efforts.


As part of the event, DC Mahajan also honoured newly born girl children under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. He also gave away sports kits to the newly formed girls’ teams in the Reasi district.


Furthermore, licenses for adventure sports, specifically rafting were presented to individuals who completed the 15-day training program at ITI Reasi. A pledge to fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was taken by all attendees.


District Social Welfare Officer, Sachin Sharma concluded the event with vote of thanks. He appraised that such programmes shall be organized at regular intervals across the district to create awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse. He also urged the masses especially the youths to act as beacon and render their cooperation to eradicate the menace of drugs and illicit trafficking from the society.


ADDC, Sukhdev Singh Samyal, ACR Anshumali Sharma, ACD Pradeep Kumar, Medical Superintendent Gopal Dutt, Tehsildar Suresh Singh, District Youth Services and Sports officer Tarseem Singh and other officers were present.
