District Administration Reasi launches mega cleanliness and beautification drive

REASI, AUGUST 09: To mark the commencement of “Mari Mati Mera Desh” campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, District Administration Reasi today launched a mega cleanliness and beautification drive in Reasi Township.

The cleanliness drive started from the District Administrative Complex to Rishi Kumar Koushal Chowk via Bus Stand, Tempo Stand Reasi and Bhimgarh Fort. The drive was held under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner  Babila Rakwal.

District Officers and officials from all the Departments collected waste including plastic, wrappers and polythene etc. The waste collected was later disposed of by Municipal Council Reasi. During the said drive, the officers and officials motivated the street vendors and shopkeepers to install Dust Bins in front of their shops to collect the waste generated so that the workers can pick up and dispose of it regularly.

To extend the green cover and enhance the beautification, a Plantation drive and landscaping was carried out in and around Bhim Garh Fort in collaboration with the Forest and Floriculture department.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi Abdul Star said that the aim of such programmes and drives is to generate awareness and bring about behavioral change among the people regarding the importance of swacchta and plantations. He emphasized the role of trees in protection of the environment and urged all stakeholders including the general public to plant more and more trees not only during “Mari Maati Mera Desh” campaign but also to convert barren lands into green patches.

District Development Commissioner Reasi Babila Rakwal also inaugurated sports activities for promoting “Mari Maati Mera Desh” campaign in the Sports Stadium Reasi.

Students from Boys Higher Secondary School Reasi, Higher Secondary School Kambal Danga and Girls Higher Secondary School Reasi took part in games like Tug of War and Volleyball. 

The Deputy Commissioner applauded the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports for organising such events. She also advised the students to work hard and focus on academics as well and asked the players to keep themselves away from drug menace and other anti-social activities. 

Later, Ausadhi Van Utsav was celebrated in District Administrative Complex Reasi where 77 saplings of different ornamental and traditional species were planted, including Bougan Villa, Amaltas, Gulmohar etc. District Officers and officials also took active participation in the said beautification drive.

District Programme Officer Mohd. Anwar Banday, ACR Anshumali Sharma, CPO Sunita Kanchan, Suresh Singh Tehsildar Reasi, District Panchayat Officer Om Parkash, ARTO and CEO were among other District Officers who were also present on the occasion.
