District Biodiversity Committee reviews Environmental Conservation initiatives in Doda

DODA, APRIL 24: In a proactive move to safeguard the region’s rich biodiversity, the District Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) Doda convened a crucial meeting at the Divisional Forest Office today. The session was chaired by District Development Council (DDC) Chairman and Committee Head Dhananter Singh Kotwal. The meeting aimed to review ongoing conservation strategies, enhance protection measures, and ensure sustainable utilization of local biological resources.


The meeting saw the presence of key forest officials, including Conservator of Forests, Chenab Circle, Sandeep Kumar, who also serves as the Committee’s Secretary. He emphasized the need for updating People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) and involving local communities in eco-restoration efforts. Also in attendance were Manohar Lal Aryan (Member) Bipna Manhas (Member) Sumit Kotwal (Member); Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mahesh Kumar (Doda) and DFO Bhaderwah, who shared updates on afforestation drives and steps taken to curb deforestation and encroachments in forest areas.


Adding to the inclusive nature of the meeting, DDC Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Rani participated virtually, reflecting the committee’s commitment to collaboration and transparency.


The BMC stressed on enhancing public awareness through biodiversity awareness camps, school programs, and the promotion of traditional knowledge in preserving native flora and fauna. The session concluded with a call for collective action and stronger coordination among departments, local bodies, and civil society to secure the ecological future of the district.
