District Hub for Empowerment of Women Launches Week-Long Program for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
Leh, October 7, 2024 — The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Sakti, has initiated a week-long program in celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, culminating on October 11, 2024, in observance of the International Day of the Girl Child.
The program commenced on October 4, 2024, with an enlightening awareness session on the usage and benefits of menstrual cups, held at EJM College Leh.
The session featured special guest Miss Shivani Chopra from MOGRA NGO, who shared insights on the sustainable use of menstrual cups and emphasized their advantages over traditional products like sanitary pads and tampons. She emphasized, “ Awareness and Education about menstrual hygiene are crucial for empowering women and breaking the stigma associated with mensuration.” Approximately 200 menstrual cups were distributed to students during this session.
Continuing the initiative, menstrual cups were also provided to the nuns at Sakya Nunnery, a childcare institution, on October 5, 2024, reinforcing the importance of sustainable menstrual health solutions.
On October 7, as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, DHEW in collaboration with ICDS, a PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana) registration drive was conducted at the ICDS Hall for the Anganwadi workers of Upper Leh, Lower Leh, and Choglamsar Centre. This event included an awareness session on the usage and benefits of menstrual cups, with additional cups distributed to participants.
The week-long program underscores the commitment to empowering women and girls while addressing important societal issues and encouraging sustainable practices.
