District Level Export promotion Committee discusses Draft Export Plan for Jammu

JAMMU, JULY 20: A meeting of District Level Export Promotion Committee was today held here under the Chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner Jammu Anvy Lavasa, who is also the Chairman of Committee. The meeting was convened to discuss the Draft Export Plan for Jammu district prepared by Jammu and Kashmir trade promotion Organization J&K (JKTPO).

At the outset, the Functional Manager DIC Jammu Sandeep Dubey welcomed the   committee members and informed about the agenda of the meeting.

The consultant from JKTPO presented a PowerPoint  presentation on the draft district Export action plan, detailing both hard and soft measures required to increase exports of products identified under ODOP, i.e. Basmati Rice, and products identified under District as Export Hub, i.e. Mango, Dairy Products, Sozni and Stapple.

An extensive discussion was held on the increase of production of Basmati rice and mango, besides the action plan to make these products of international quality so as to increase the income of local potential exporters.

The Deputy Commissioner Jammu directed the stakeholder departments to provide short- and long-term action plans with specific targets for next three years of identified product to DIC for its incorporation in the plan. 

She said that the plan must include strategies to increase production, quality of products, more FPO formation, cluster zones for export to be identified, departmental schemes be implemented and market linkages, good packaging techniques etc to  increase export from the district.

The DC also suggested replacing Phulkari with Sozni and stapple which have greater export potential.

The DDC Jammu instructed the committee members to go through the draft export action plan prepared by JKTPO and make some valuable suggestions to be included in the draft action plan before it is submitted to the Committee.

She directed JKTPO to share a format with DIC which will be shared with all departments for getting realistic data and plan.

The Committee will meet again to finalize the plan after incorporating suggestions from the various stakeholders.
