District Level training programme on “Rainfed Area Development & Alternative Agriculture System’ held in Reasi
REASI, March 14: District Level Training cum Orientation Programme on “Rainfed Area Development & Alternative Agriculture System’ was held today, here at Conference Hall, D. C. Office, Reasi.
The programme was inaugurated by Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi, Harbans Singh.
CAO Reasi while speaking on the occasion said that stress was being laid on developing climate resilient and nutritionally smart crop varieties to deal with constraints faced in Rainfed Agriculture.
With regard to the alternate agriculture system, J&K has huge potential for organic farming as it improves soil structure, low input cost, premium quality of products besides being eco friendly, he added. He also informed that 60% of the area in the district is by default organic.
DAO, Extension, Rajesh Verma deliberated on objectives, approaches to follow while implementing Rainfed Area Development Project besides its outcome. He also highlighted various adaptive measures to mitigate the ill effects of climate change.
Head KVK Reasi, Dr. Banarasi Lal explained in detail the vision, goal, strategy, action and likely achievements of the organic farming system. Topics like Certification of organic products (PGSsystem), branding, marketing were also covered during the session.
Chief Animal Husbandry officer Reasi, Abdul Majid, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Reasi, P.P Sajotra, District Agriculture Officer, Ravinder Tripathi, SMS DL, Amit Sharma, ASCO, Varinder Dogra and Sub division Agriculture Officer Dharmari, Rupinder Pal Singh Bedi, SMSs, AEOs and field functionaries of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry Department participated in the training.
