Distt Admin Budgam organises ‘Pani Samiti Sammelan’
DC terms Paani Samitis integral part of JJM Mission
BUDGAM, January 11: The District Administration Budgam today organised a ‘Pani Samiti Sammelan’ at Conference Hall, here.
The Sammelan was presided over by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Budgam, S F Hamid.
It is worth mentioning here that Pani Samitis have been constituted in consonance with the guidelines of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to oversee and lead conservation of water and water bodies in the rural areas.
During the programme, DDC said that these Samities will be updated regarding various schemes and shall be provided exposure about best practices across the country. He emphasized that the Pani Samiti must act as the crucial decision making and executing body in the implementation process.
The DDC further said that Women must play an important part in realizing the objectives of Samitis.
The Samitis were made in 11 blocks of the district falling under jurisdiction of Jal Shakti PHE Division Budgam.
It was given out that 101 schemes are under execution which includes 06 bore wells, 09 OHTs, 22 Rapid Sand filtration plants and 117 Pipe network besides allied works. It was further informed that Labs have been established in the District and so far as 3622 tests have been conducted. Moreover there are 175 FTKS users and 610 women trainers in 11 blocks of Beerwah, Khansahib, Budgam.
The PRIs and the Pani Samitis were sensitized regarding their role to motivate rural community and village level front level workers in preparation of village action plans, to facilitate constitution of Sub committees of gram Panchayats for its functionaries, and to conduct need assessment of Functional household tap connections and motivate village committees to have FHTC’s.
They were also asked to conduct household survey of population benefitted by water supply schemes executed under JJM with regard to the improvement in the socio-economic conditions, and to build awareness on various aspects of water such as rain water harvesting, artificial recharge, water quality, water-borne diseases, water saving, water handling, drinking water source augmentation/sustainability aspects, etc. besides, to participate regularly in meetings and coordinate effectively with various government bodies
Among others, Superintendent Engineer Hydraulic Circle Budgam (Member Secretary JJM Budgam) Er. Irfan Ul Islam; Executive Engineer Jal Shakti PHE Division Budgam, Er. Shakeel ur Rehman; Executive engineer Jal Shakti PHE Division Chadoora, Er. Nazia Nazir; Coordinator Project Management Unit Budgam, Er. Mudasir Untoo; PRI’s ( Chairman Pani Samiits), Pani Samiti members, Field test kit users (FTKs) were part of the workshop.
