DLL organises Career Counselling workshop at GDC Kathua
KATHUA, September 20: Employment Information Cum Advisory Bureau (EIAB), Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL) in collaboration with Govt. Degree College, Kathua today organized a career counselling workshop for the students of the college.
Prof. Ramni Gupta, Department of Physics and Dr. Harleen Kour, Sr. Assistant Prof., Department of Commerce, University of Jammu were the resource persons. The workshop was planned under the able guidance of Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu.
The workshop began with the lightening of the lamp and welcome address by Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jasrotia, Convenor, Career Counselling Cell, GDC Kathua. He said that choosing right career is very important in life because ultimate goal is not just to earn money but also to seek satisfaction in the long run. He stressed upon students to attend such programmes besides regular class room activity as such programmes can shape their future.
Prof Seema Mir, in her address highlighted the importance of such programmes for the overall growth of students. She appreciated the role of Counseling Cell in organizing such career awareness programmes for the students as they are worried about the employment opportunities after graduation due to lack of awareness. She said that Career counselling focuses on helping students to understand their own self as well as their skills and talents so that they can take an informed and wise decision about their career.
Further Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, Department of Lifelong Learning explained the motive behind the conduct of such workshops. She also explained the importance of career counselling at this stage of their career. Prof. Ramni Gupta, the key resource person of the workshop, spoke about the study options in Sciences which cover Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences: (Academics as well as Professional courses), New and Emerging areas in Sciences, Job opportunities after Graduation, Study Abroad options for students and scholarships/fellowships available. The second key resource person, Dr. Harleen Kour explained the concept of Self Employment, Characteristics of an Entrepreneur, steps to start their own businesses and loan facility.
About 80 students of 5th Semester very actively participated in the workshop. The participants interacted with the resource persons and all the queries raised by the students were well answered by them. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Anupma Arora and formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Pankaj Gupta. Faculty members who were present in the workshop included Prof. Raj Kiran, Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Prof. Shivani Kotwal, Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Dr. Sumit Dubey, Dr. Roshan Lal, Dr. Renu, Prof. Neha Mahajan, Dr. Verinder Singh, Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, Dr. Jasvinder Singh, Dr. Himani Arora and Prof. Shiv Kumar.
