DLSA Bandipora observes ‘International Day against Drug Abuse’
BANDIPORA, JUNE 27: A day long awareness programme on International Day against Drug Abuse was organized by the Office of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora in collaboration with District Education Department Bandipora under the aegis of JK Legal Services Authority at Govt. Boys Secondary School Bagh Bandipora.
The programme was held under the supervision of Chairman DLSA (PDJ) Bandipora, Amit Sharma and guidance of Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak.
The objective of the programme was to sensitize participants about the ill effects of drugs in personal and social spheres of human life.
Resource person, Advocate Ishtiyaq Ahmad spoke on the importance of the day. He said that today drug abuse has become an international concern and it has destroyed thousands of individuals and their families. He requested everyone that three things are needed to fight drug abuse and they are awareness, motivation and will power.
He also threw light on various laws related to drug abuse. He said anyone involved in drugs shall face tough legal consequences and stressed on staying away from drugs for eradicating this menace. He emphasized how imperative it is to generate awareness through preventive programmes at grass roots level particularly in schools, colleges and public places to educate and inform the public about the ill effects of drug abuse and drug addiction.
He called upon the staff members and students to collectively fight towards eradication and elimination of drug abuse from Distt Bandipora. He ended his speech by requesting youth to be motivated, aware and create will power to avoid drugs.
The programme ended with a cultural programme including a vibrant and colorful display of talent presented by the students of the GBSS Bagh Bandipora. A pledge taking ceremony was also held on the occasion.
The programme was attended by faculty members of the GBHS Bagh Bandipora, Staff Members of DLSA Bandipora, Para Legal Volunteers, students and other participants.
