DLSA Kupwara organises Awareness programme at GDC (Women) Kupwara

KUPWARA, AUGUST 27: In pursuance to the activities calendar, 2024, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara, under the aegis of NALSA & JK Legal Services Authority today organized an awareness programme on NALSA (Victims of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation) Scheme 2015 at Government Degree College (Women) Kupwara.


The programme, held under the supervision of Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara, Shazia Tabasum, and under immediate guidance of Secretary, DLSA Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmad Khan, was aimed at spreading awareness among participants and students regarding the immoral trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.


The programme was attended by Principal Government Degree College (Women) Kupwara, Assistant Professors, Assistant LADC, DLSA Kupwara, Staff members, Students and Para Legal Volunteers.


Speaking on the occasion, the resource person, Tawseef Raja (Assistant LADC, DLSA Kupwara) highlighted the objectives of the scheme. He also laid stress upon prevention, rescue, free legal representation, rehabilitation and compensation of the victims of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. He also highlighted provisions of Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, POCSO Act, Victim Compensation Scheme and penalties/punishments provided therein for the offenders.


Principal GDC Kupwara, Farooq Faizan appreciated the role of legal services authority in spreading awareness regarding various socio-legal issues.


Dr Shaziya Lone (Assistant Professor) thanked the officials of DLSA Kupwara for conducting programmes on various legal issues. Students and participants hailed the efforts of Legal Services Authorities for organizing various awareness programmes in educational institutions of the district.
