DM bats for final attack on drug peddling Poppy & Cannabis cultivation

DODA, May 30: Appreciating the efforts of the civil and police administration in fighting drug menace, District Magistrate Doda, Vishesh Mahajan and SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom today batted for a final attack on drug trafficking, Cannabis and Poppy cultivation to make the district drugs free.

The DM was speaking at the 11th district level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee meeting here in the DC office,  the other day. Directions were given to all the ADCs, ASPs, SDMs, SDPOs, Tehsildars, and SHOs  to step up the onslaught to end this menace.  

The DM asked the health and education department to submit the figures of students checked, counselled, and cases referred to the rehabilitation centres, if any, in every NCORD meeting henceforth.

Sub Divisional and Tehsil level authorities  were entrusted to provide details, including revenue records of those involved in Poppy and Cannabis cultivation in the district, to take stringent legal action against them.

The meeting also discussed the setting up of a Drug De- addiction and Rehabilitation centre in the old hospital building in Bhaderwah. The results of drug testing kits distributed in the areas vulnerable to drug addiction were also discussed during the meeting.

SSP informed that 15 FIRs have been lodged against drug peddlers in the current year, and many others are under surveillance. Moreover, 5 FIRs have been lodged against the Poppy plant cultivators during this year. He assured the meeting that stringent action shall be taken against the persons involved in drug trafficking.

The meeting was attended by ADC Doda, ADC Bhaderwah, ASP Bhaderwah, SDM Thathri, SDM Gandoh, SDM Assar, SE PWD, ACD Doda, ACP Doda, CAO, DMO Doda, DFO Bhaderwah, and other concerned officers and officials.
