DM Ramban chairs NCORD meeting
Calls for effective enforcement of drug control measures
RAMBAN, JUNE 16: District Magistrate Ramban, Mussarat Islam, today chaired a meeting of the District-level NARCO Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review the measures taken by the enforcement agencies to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district.
Additional SP, Gourav Mahajan; CMO Dr. Kamal Zadu; DSWO, Rahul Gupta; DCO, Imtiyaz Ahmed; Dy.CEO, BDO and other concerned officers attended the meeting. Tehsildars and DFOs also attended through virtual mode.
A threadbare discussion was also held on incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curb the menace of drugs.
He further underscored that the Ramban Administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against drug suppliers and traffickers. He asked all concerned to make a micro level strategy to deal with the menace. The District level NARCO coordination committee appreciated the enforcement departments for launching effective measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district. The Committee asked for working with the same spirit.
The DM directed the concerned to compile a database of drug addicts to facilitate their medical treatment and rehabilitation. He also directed ACD, CMOs, Police, Tehsildars and BDOs to submit a factual report regarding the status of drug addiction and cultivation of restricted crops used for narcotic drugs.
The DM also directed the CMO and enforcement departments to intensify inspections of chemist shops, health centres and courier service centers to restrict illegal transport, sale and distribution of psychotropic drugs and other banned substances in the district.
Recognizing the significance of awareness activities, the District Magistrate instructed the concerned departments to initiate mass awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and public spaces.
The DM sought ATR from all stakeholder departments about the measures taken by them to control the drug menace. He also directed them to launch a massive awareness campaign. He also directed the concerned stakeholders to launch special awareness camps, rallies and other events on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking June 26.
The DM appealed to parents of teenagers’ and young children to keep watch on their children to prevent them from drug addiction.
