DMK’s Elangovan : Udhayanidhi’promotion to TN Dy CM post ‘a right decision’
Chennai, Tamil Nadu [India], September 30 (ANI) : The DMK has fully endorsed the elevation of Udhayanidhi Stalin to the post of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief minister. DMK leader TKS Elangovan on Monday said that the decision to promote him was right as has gained enough experience to be worthy of being in the government.
Speaking to ANI, he said, “…He has gained experience, performed very well in his ministry. He is accepted by the party and all senior leaders. There is nothing wrong with it…””
“Given his experience , the senior party members and his ministerial colleagues were demanding a larger official role for him in the government,” he said.
DMK allies Congress and VCK also welcomed the elevation of Udhyanidhi Stalin as Deputy CM.
Congress’ K. Selvaperunthagai said,”Many leaders in the BJP also have their sons and daughters serving as MLAs and MPs.”
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Founder-President Thol. Thirumavalavan likewise expressed his support for Udhayanidhi’s promotion.
“He will carry out his duties under the guidance of our Chief Minister. He is a capable individual, and he has performed well in his previous portfolio. We welcome his elevation to the role of Deputy CM,” Thirumavalavan said.
On Saturday, Tamil Nadu Sport Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister. Besides the existing Sports Ministry, Udhayanidhi has also been allotted the portfolio of Planning and Development.
This is the first in the history of state and third in India that a father-son duo will hold the post of CM and deputy CM. Badals have done it in Punjab prior to this.
Earlier, Chief Minister MK Stalin had recommended to the Governor of Tamil Nadu, RN Ravi, to allot the portfolio of Planning and Development to Udhayanidhi, in addition to his existing portfolios, and be designated as Deputy Chief Minister.
The Tamil Nadu CM also re-inducted former transport minister Senthil Balaji two days after he got bail in a money laundering case.
On Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji, TKS Elangovan said “ED and CBI have taken up a case which was already disposed off by the Chennai High Court. We feel that whatever happened with him is an attempt by the BJP to thwart DMKs chances in the Western belt…BJP thinks that the Western belt is favourable to them but no district in Tamil Nadu is favourable to them.”
