Dogri Mantaya Diwas celebrated at GCW Udhampur
UDHAMPUR December 23: To celebrate Dogri Mantaya Diwas, the Department of Dogri, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with Literary Club organized a Cultural and Literary programme based on Dogri language on the college campus here today.
The event was held under the patronship of the Principal of the college, Prof Anjali Mahajan, to commemorate the introduction of Dogri Language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Renowned Dogri writer and Sahitya Academy Awardee, Parkash Premi son of the soil was the chief Guest on the occasion.
Parkash Premi, in his address, focused on the need to embrace our linguistic identity and make it a part and parcel to ignite the respect for our Duggar civilization.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. Anjali Mahajan stressed the need for communication in our mother tongue, for the upliftment of the Duggar heritage. She stated that unless and until we don‘t uplift our languages, we won‘t be able to contribute to our culture and civilization.
Earlier, the programme started by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by dignitaries. In her welcome address, Head of Dogri Department Dr. Sushma Kumari laid stress on the significance of the mother language of Jammu region which further exhorted the audience and students to put forth the efforts in preserving the Dogri heritage.
Dr. Mool Raj Convenor Literary Club GCW Udhampur and Prof. Yash Paul Heritage Club also expressed their views regarding the importance of Dogri language and presented the motivational poem “Jind Dogri Te Meri Jaan Dogri……” by Dr. Mool Raj.
On this occasion, various students from the Department of Dogri and Music participated and presented their Poems, Solo songs, Skits, Speeches and Cultural program with great zeal and vigor that left a great impact on the youngsters for the acceleration of love and respect for their mother tongue Dogri.
The cultural Programme was organized under the able guidance of the faculty of Dogri Department and Prof. Yash Kumar department of Music.
The proceedings of the programme was conducted by Assistant Professor Manju Bala and Miss Lata Thakur of semester 1st besides the formal vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Shama Rani of Dogri Department. About 200 students of the college witnessed the event.
Among others, Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Prof. Lekh Raj Badyal, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Shivani Suri Verma, Dr. Meena Gupta, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Prof. Yash Kumar, other senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
