Dr. Karan Singh confers Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2023 to Justice Permod Kohli

JAMMU, Oct 21: To celebrate the 232nd birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, a function was organized by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at  Hotel Hari Niwas on 21st October 2023.

On the occasion, Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman Trustee of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust, Trustees Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh, Maharaj Kumar Ajatshatru Singh and RK Ranvijay Singh who were accompanied with Rajkumari Jyotsna Singh, Kuwrani Ritu Singh, Yuvrani Chitrangada Raje Singh and Rajkumar Martand Singh.

The function started with a welcome address by Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh, Trustee, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust.

After the welcome note, M.K Ajatshatru Singh, Trustee of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust spoke about the life of Maharaja Gulab Singh and ably brought out his persona as one of the most admired and compelling warrior and empire builders in the 19th-century.

This was followed by the reading of the citation by M.K. Ajatshatru Singh, Trustee, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust.

Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman Trustee of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust, presented the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2023 to Justice Permod Kohli for his contribution in the field of judiciary.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr Karan Singh ji underlined the necessity of revisiting the life and achievements of Maharaja Gulab Singh which is evident in every field whether it is the society, polity, and economy of the region. He was one of the rare rulers in Indian history that left a footprint of his sovereignty in the difficult terrain of Gilgit, Baltistan, Ladakh and Tibet. In this context, he pointed further that his achievements and contributions unfortunately remain a matter of marginal concern for historians engaged in the historical reconstruction.

Dr. Karan Singh along with participants also paid rich tributes to seven persons including a doctor who were killed in a terrorist attack in Sonmarg area of Ganderbal District by observing two minutes silence.

While delivering the vote of thanks Rajkumar Ranvijay Singh, Member of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust said, “Trust is committed to work for the glorious Dogra history with special focus on youth.”

He thanked all esteemed guests and stakeholders of Maharaja Gulab Singh birth anniversary celebrations function by adding, “ it is not possible with the team efforts.”

By emphasising to speak Dogri, RK Ranvijay Singh ended his vote of thanks.
