Dr Tahir Choudhary slams JKPCC president for misleading statements on UCC, Waqf Bil
JAMMU, January 31: Senior BJP leader and spokesperson Dr. Tahir Choudhary on Thursday strongly criticized Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra for his statements against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, calling them misleading and an attempt to spread false propaganda.
In a press statement, Dr. Choudhary reaffirmed that the UCC is a constitutional mandate aimed at ensuring equality before the law for all citizens, irrespective of religion. “The Congress has always indulged in appeasement politics, dividing the nation on religious lines. The UCC is about giving equal rights to all, and it is shocking that the Congress opposes a move that strengthens democracy,” he said.
Refuting Karra’s claim that the Waqf Bill is part of an agenda to spread hatred, Dr. Choudhary said, “The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is a much-needed reform to bring transparency and accountability to Waqf properties, which have been plagued by corruption and mismanagement for decades. Congress is rattled because it no longer has control over Waqf assets that were being exploited for political gains.”
He accused Congress of fear-mongering and misleading minorities for electoral benefits. “This is the same party that opposed the abrogation of Article 370, and Ram Mandir verdict—every move that benefits the nation. Now, they are creating unnecessary panic around the Waqf Bill and UCC to keep their vote bank intact,” he added.
Responding to Karra’s remarks about BJP spreading hatred, Dr. Choudhary countered, “The real hatred was spread during Congress rule with policies that divided communities for votes. The BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working on ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’—a vision that includes all, without discrimination.”
Regarding Karra’s pessimism about the Union Budget, Dr. Choudhary said, “The Congress is frustrated because every budget under the Modi government has focused on economic growth, employment, and social welfare. Unlike Congress, which left India in economic shambles, BJP has consistently delivered pro-people policies that uplift every section of society.”
Asserting that people will reject Congress’s divisive politics, Dr. Choudhary said, “The nation is moving forward with development and reforms, but Congress wants to pull it back with fear-mongering and misinformation. The people of Jammu and Kashmir, and the entire country, have seen through their game and will not be misled anymore.”
