Dr Tahir Choudhary urges govt action against exorbitant fees by Private Schools in J&K

BJP spokesperson Dr. Tahir Choudhary has raised serious concerns over the exploitative practices of private schools in Jammu and Kashmir during the ongoing admission season.

He strongly criticized schools for charging exorbitant fees under various unjustified heads such as building maintenance, development charges, and transportation, burdening parents beyond reasonable limits.

Dr. Choudhary said that while education is a fundamental right, some private institutions have turned it into a business, exploiting parents in the name of quality learning.

He pointed out that schools are forcing parents to purchase expensive book sets from private publishers instead of the much more affordable and government-recommended NCERT books.

Dr. Choudhary appealed to the Hon’ble Minister for Education and the J&K Government to take strict and prompt measures to curb such malpractices.

He urged the Directorate of School Education and Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) to carry out surprise inspections and take legal action against erring schools.

He emphasized the need to regulate private school fees, ensure transparency in book and uniform procurement, and protect the interests of students and their families.

“Education should not become a luxury for the privileged, but a right accessible to all,” he added.

BJP spokesperson reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring affordable and quality education for every child in the Union Territory and urged the government to establish a grievance redressal mechanism for affected parents.
