DRCS Kathua organises series of activities to mark World Red Cross Day
KATHUA, May 8: District Red Cross Society (DRCS) Kathua today organised a mega program here in Little Angels Hr Sec School to mark the observance of World Red Cross Day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
To mark the day, a number of activities including Inter-school Symposium and Painting competitions were held on the theme of “Everything we do Comes from the Heart” where.
The programme started with offering of floral tributes to the founder of the Red Cross by Additional SP, Paramjeet Singh, ADC, Deepika Rana and ACR, Vishav Pratap Singh.
Participating Students threw light on the working of the Red Cross and how it works and reaches out to the people in distress by volunteering efforts of the people from all walks of life.
Highlighting the aims and objectives of the Red Cross, they said it works on seven predefined principles viz humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. The Red Cross is engaged worldwide in providing relief to the poor, needy and those who fall prey to Natural Calamities, accident victims and poor patients, they said.
In the symposium, Ritesh Singh & Samiksha Sharma of Little Angel’s Hr Sec School Kathua bagged first position, Preeti Saini and Palak Devi of Govt Higher Secondary School Nagri clinched second and third position respectively.
In Painting Competition, Suresh Kumar of GHSS Nagri and Reena Samanta of GGHSS Kathua were adjudged first, while Shradha Sharma of Little Angels Hr Sec School and Vishal Sehgal of GHSS Kathua were adjudged second and Anurag of GHSS Nagri was declared third.
Later, the Secretary RCS Kathua O P Sharma administered a pledge to all the participant
