DSRS Jammu University organises a Talk on India-China Relations

JAMMU, April 17: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu has organized a talk on “India-China Relations: An Analysis” in the seminar hall of the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS). The talk was delivered by Prof. Josukutty C.A. from the Department of Political Science, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, for the Research Scholars and the students of the master’s programme of the department.

 Prof. Josukutty first introduced the understanding of India-China relations from an ancient, medieval and modern historical perspective and provided a detailed account of the two neighbours’ diplomatic and security equations from different perspectives as well as shed light on it from his field visits to China and Indian parts of North-East and Ladakh.

Furthermore, he focused his talk on different methods and approaches Indian policymakers need to adopt to avoid conflict with China, particularly by following the strategies of internal and external balancing. He also stressed that India should focus on expanding its influence in Southeast Asia where it is effectively connected through cultural connections and population linkages.

Likewise, associations with the West Asian states and major powers, particularly through the Indo-Pacific and the Quad arrangements, needs to be strengthened and actively explored so that India can simultaneously neutralise China and present itself as a viable alternative rising power.  Prof. Josukutty also stressed that India needs to work on its economic capacity so that it would help it to get a political and military edge in duty to settle its border disputes with an upper edge.

Prof Josukutty further underlined that India ought to  refocus on its neighbourhood with a specific approach to take political leaders and elites into confidence so that India can strengthen its political currency in the domestic politics of neighbouring countries.

Prof. Virender Koundal, Director DSRS, delivered a formal welcome address and introduced the theme of the lecture. 

 Director DSRS, Prof. Virender Koundal also gave his concluding remarks. Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam presented a formal vote of thanks.

The function was also attended by Dr. Mohammad Monir Alam, Dr. Suneel Kumar, Dr. Surinder Mohan, research scholars and PG students of the department.
