DSRS Jammu University organises talk on “Prospects of Startups in Rising India”

JAMMU, April 09: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu organized a talk on “Prospects of Startups in Rising India” in the seminar hall of the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS). The talk was delivered by Mr. Bneat Singh, alumni of the University of Jammu and the United Kingdom-based Financial Expert, to the Research Scholars and the students of the master’s programme of the department. Prof. Virender Koundal, Director DSRS, formally welcome the Chief Guest, Mr. Bneat Singh, and other dignitaries and introduced the theme of the lecture and invited Mr. Bneat Singh to deliver the talk.

Mr. Bneat Singh began his talk first by introducing the concept of “Startup” and then explained in detail about the startup companies as new born companies formed on innovative and brilliant ideas. These companies’ focus is to provide innovative service with an intention of catering the needs of the society, market or nation. He also stressed on the major problem start-ups face while creating new innovative business ideas and finding business opportunities. Mr. Bneat explained the lifecycle of startups in three phases: (1) “Pre start up”, (2) “Start up stage”, and (3) “Development or Extension stage.

Later, the focus of his talk was on the competitive atmosphere produced from the growing requirements in India which are compelling the country to generate innovative entrepreneurial systems. India has declared the period 2010-20 as the decades of innovation and growth of smart industries to increase the country’s per capita income. He stressed that India is one of the most productive markets in the world and that is why all MNCs are eyeing the largest pie of venture prospects in India. In this respect, he mentioned about the government of India which recently claimed that “India is now the hub of ‘Start-up’ ecosystem in the world, ranking third with 90,000 ‘Start-Ups’ and 107 unicorn companies worth 30 billion dollars which has been possible only by the contribution of India’s youth”.

In the end, Mr Bneat Singh talked about the Indian government’s vision on Start-Ups and what prospects rising India has in the 21st century. He also shed light on how and why start-ups flourish and fail in India and how the government and aspirants of start-ups needs to look into this aspect to make India a great success story. With is longstanding goal, Mr. Bneat Singh maintained, India needs to work on its economic capacity so that it would help it to get political and military edge in its global ascendance.

 After this, Director DSRS, Prof. Virender Koundal gave his concluding remarks. This program was also attended by the Department faculty Dr. Surinder Mohan, Dr. Ranjan Sharma, research scholars and PG students of the department. In the end, Dr. Ranjan Sharma gave a vote of thanks.
