DSW, CLUJ inaugurated YUVTARANG2023 at SPMR College of Commerce
JAMMU, 12 Dec:“YUVTARANG”, the cultural and literary fest organised by The Department of Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu was inaugurated at Govt. SPMR College of Commerce here today. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof Bechan Lal presided over the function whereas Padma Shree Sh. Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang was the Chief Guest. The program was attended by Dr. Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar, Deans of Cluster University, Principals of the constituent Colleges, Financial Advisor, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, Cultural Coordinator, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Cultural Conveners, Student Cultural Council, faculty members and students.
YUVTARANG 2023, which is an annual student fest held first in 2018, will consist of more than 25 literary and cultural events. The programme began with traditional lighting of the lamp. Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Dean Student Welfare while welcoming the august gathering said that YUVTARANG 2023 is a festival of ideas, celebration of talent, a platform for meaningful interactions, creative expressions, a showcase of the incredible diversity and forging of life long memories.
Prof Bechan Lal, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, in his address emphasised the role of extra-curricular activities in holistic development of the students. He lauded students for their extensive participation in the events, and said that various activities of the festival provide a gamut of opportunities for creative expression.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Balwant Thakur, an internationally renowned Theatre personality appreciated the youth festival and said that intervention of the Arts and engagement with the stage has been a tradition of Higher Education in Jammu. He offered his assistance to the University for the promotion of Fine Arts. He opined that the stage, being a magical space, is the perfect platform for students to express themselves. He suggested that
such talent competitions should be held all round the year so that students are exposed to the stage frequently.
Dr. Kuldeep Raina “Swadeshi”, Cultural Coordinator, briefed the audience about the significance of YUVTARANG where talent meets opportunity, creativity flourishes, ideas converge and reflect a rich cultural tapestry that defines our University.
A Mehandi Competition and a Clay Modelling Competition was organized as part of the first day of YUVTARANG 2023. In the Mehandi Competition, first position was bagged by Enamika Sharma from GCW Gandhi Nagar, whereas the second and the third positions went to Palkin from MAM College and Komal from GCOE respectively. In the Clay Modelling Competition, the first position went to Shivani Sharma from GCOE while the second and third positions went to Mohd Zaigham Salaria from GGM Science College and Manshi Verma from School of Sciences respectively. Prof Nidhi Kotwal, Principal GDC, Basoli, Dr Amareet Singh, IMFA and Prof Samridhi Arora, Department of Home Science, JU were the adjudicators for Clay Modelling and Mehandi Competition.
The event was compered by Prof. Sugandha Mahajan whereas Prof. Ashu Manhas presented a formal Vote of Thanks. Under the supervision of Dr. Surinder Kumar, Principal of the college, the entire programme was coordinated and managed by Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj, Dr. Chetna Gupta, Prof. Deepshikha Sharma, Prof. Shaji Khan, Dr. Jagmeet Kour, Dr. Fayza, Dr Roomi
Rani, Dr. Deepak Pathania, and Dr. Neeru.
