EE&RS Deptt takes students for Nature Walk, imparts awareness on environment conservation
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 16: The Department of Ecology Environment & Remote Sensing, today celebrated World Ozone Day with Students of various Government Schools at Environment Park, Raika.
The theme for this year is: “Fixing the Ozone layer and reducing Climate change”. Hundreds of students along with faculty members visited the Environment Park Raika. During the event they were taken for a nature walk & on the spot identification of flora activity were carried.
The participants were welcomed by ESC, Jammu. They were briefed about the importance of nature and its sustainable utilization. He said the reason we gather here today is to raise awareness about the importance of the ozone layer and to commemorate World Ozone Day.
A guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Rakesh Attri, Department of Environmental Science Jammu University to the students. He explained about the harmful impact being experienced due to depletion of the ozone layer and how to mitigate it. “Due to human activities, this important layer is depleting, causing what we know as the ‘ozone hole’. There are many ways to celebrate World Ozone Day, and one of them is to educate people about the benefits of protecting the ozone layer,” he said.
Experts from the Department of Ecology Environment & Remote Sensing also spoke on this occasion .He said that Remember, our actions today will determine the future of our planet.
A Pledge was taken to work together in protecting our Environment , not just for us, but for the generations to come. Ozone is not just a layer, but a protector of life. Let’s preserve it to save life on earth. With this the function was concluded.
