Empowering Girls through Self-Defense: Gujjar Bakarwal Girls Hostel inmates imparted training at Doda

DODA, NOVEMBER 24: In a significant step towards fostering empowerment and resilience among young girls, the District Hub for Empowerment of Women in Doda joined hands with the Sports Club Doda to organize a one-day self-defense training program in Gujjar Bakarwal Girls Hostel. A group of enthusiastic girls gathered to equip themselves with essential skills to tackle challenging situations.

Addressing the audience Humerah Balwan Gender Specialist, DHEW encouraged the girls to actively participate in sports activities and developing physical skills alongside academics. “You should focus on skills and also hold discussions on situational awareness, risk assessment and the importance of personal boundaries,” she added. Empowering young women with knowledge and practical tools contributes not only to their individual well-being but also to the overall safety of the community.

The training program aimed not only to teach physical self-defense techniques but also to instill a sense of confidence and awareness. The girls were guided through practical and effective self-defense maneuvers, emphasizing the importance of personal safety and the ability to respond assertively in difficult circumstances.

The instructor and coach Bhushan experienced in self-defense techniques provided valuable insights and tips, creating a supportive environment for the girls to build both physical and mental strength.

As the day unfolded, a great sense of empowerment filled the atmosphere. The girls left the training program with a newfound confidence, ready to face the world with a sense of assurance and resilience.

Later, as a part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebration, the girls of Gujjar hostel spoke about the life and achievements of Birsa Munda who is revered as God by tribal communities in India.

 Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is celebrated as part of the year-long celebrations of 75 years of India’s Independence to recognize the efforts of the tribal communities in the preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of national pride, valour, and hospitality.
