Eviction drive inhumane, leading to mayhem in J&K: Rattan Lal

JAMMU, Feb 2: Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President NC on Thursday slammed government against ongoing eviction drive in J&K claiming the same to be inhumane, unjustified and above all anti-poor.

In a statement issued to media persons, the NC senior functionary said that the so-called anti-encroachment drive has led to chaotic situation all across the region with people getting frightened over the uncertainty about their future.

Gupta said that on one side the government is boasting to provide housing to homeless and on the other it has been rendering poor people homeless and jobless under the guise of vacating the encroached state land. 

He said that the people are on these land due to adverse possession and have constructed small business establishments and houses which are the requirements of their livelihood as such these should be regularized as have been regularized in the past.

He claimed that aforesaid drive is totally unjustified and should be stopped at the earliest because the government has no right to snatch away people’s homes and business establishments in such an arbitrary manner leaving the poor state subjects helpless and devastated. 

The Provincial President urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the issue and ensure justice to the poor people because if the successive governments have given them lands to live and prosper, it is not their fault and the investment which they have made to raise their houses and business establishments have been put on stake after the unfair decision of the incumbent government which is in a way harassing the affected lot for no fault of theirs.

He made a fervent appeal to the LG to come out with a people-friendly policy on the issue so that people should not face the injustice as the authorities concerned have been taking arbitrary actions in the aforesaid cases and putting the people into deep trouble.  

“The government should ensure that no one should be rendered homeless or jobless due to any kind of unfair action leaving the poor people lurching on roads”, he maintained.
