Expedite implementation of ecotourism master plan in Himachal: CM Sukhu
Shimla, June 13 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said the implementation of master plan on ecotourism needs to be expedited to fully realise its potential on employment and revenue generation in the state.
In a statement, Sukhu said activities linked to boost ecotourism were being carried out in 72 forest rest houses and 22 eco-parks and needed to be extended to 93 other proposed sites.
Sukhu said that a comprehensive master plan on ecotourism was being developed to fully realise the potential of the sector, adding that it will likely involve developing infrastructure, ensuring visitors’ safety, preserving natural habitats and collaborating with local communities.
The state can showcase its rich bio-diversity, scenic landscapes and cultural heritage by promoting ecotourism and attracting tourists interested in responsible and sustainable travel besides generating revenue and creating employment opportunities for the local population, Sukhu said.
The forest department must make earnest efforts to harness the potential in the sector, he said.
Eco-tourism is a sustainable form of tourism that promotes the conservation of natural resources and local culture.
