SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 30: The Department of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir today kick-started a Handicrafts and Handloom Exhibition at Boulevard Road in Srinagar.
The exhibition and sale is featuring a diverse array of handicrafts and handloom products.
Organized by the Handicrafts and Handloom Department, the exhibition aims to stimulate sales and provide consistent employment opportunities for artisans, weavers, and members of cooperative societies.
The inauguration of the exhibition was officiated by Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir, along with Khalid Majeed, Director Industries & Commerce, Kashmir. The event witnessed the presence of senior officers from the department.
This unique expo is set to span ten days, presenting the expertise of artisans who specialize in crafts such as Sozni, Papier Mache, Carpet, Leather, Crewel, and Pashmina.
Stalls have been set up along the scenic Boulevard Road, flanked by the picturesque Dal Lake. Artisans have been allotted these stalls free of cost, providing them with a common platform to exhibit and sell their products. This initiative ensures that customers can access genuine handicrafts at reasonable prices.
During the event, the Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir highlighted that the exhibition offers artisans an ideal marketing platform to directly connect with buyers. It also provides tourists visiting the renowned Boulevard Road an opportunity to experience the rich art and craft of Kashmir.
Mohsina Irshad, Assistant Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Srinagar, emphasized that events like these empower local entrepreneurs to establish successful businesses while promoting local heritage and tourism.
The exhibition serves as a platform where the cultural richness of Kashmir is on display for both locals and visitors alike, she said.
