Family of Badlapur rape accused approaches Bombay High Court for burial rights
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 27 (ANI): The family of deceased Akshay Shinde, accused in the Badlapur rape case and killed in police encounter, has once again approached the Bombay High Court. The family is seeking permission to find a burial site for Shinde, as they have faced difficulties locating land for his grave even after his death.
Initially, the family attempted to secure a burial site in Badlapur. They then searched for land in Ambarnath but were unsuccessful there as well, sources said. Due to these challenges, they filed a petition in the Bombay High Court through their lawyer, Amit Katarnavare.
Katarnavare informed the court that Shinde’s father, Anna Shinde, had identified a burial location in Ambarnath. However, when Anna went to the site, the officer in charge denied him permission. “He was made to wander the whole day but the procedure paper was not signed,” Katarnavare told the court.
In response, the court instructed the public prosecutor to ensure law and order is maintained in the area to prevent any issues. The public prosecutor said, “Two police officers are posted outside Akshay Shinde’s house so that no untoward incident takes place.”
The prosecutor added that they had made some progress in finding a cemetery, but the situation remains complicated.
Judge Mohite-Dere expressed frustration over lawyers making public statements.
“What is this? Why are lawyers giving statements? Lawyers should stick to their profession. We do not understand why they are giving statements outside. Our effort is to ensure that only truth prevails”, he said.
The court has acknowledged the petition and is reviewing the circumstances surrounding Shinde’s burial rights.
