Fashion Show organized by CU Jammu as a part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 (SHS) campaign
Jammu, 26 Sept 2024: Central University of Jammu in collaboration with Student For Development (SFD) organized a unique and inspiring fashion show as part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 (SHS 2024) campaign. The event highlighted the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation by showcasing creative outfits and accessories crafted from waste and discarded materials.The event was lauded by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Prof. Sanjeev Jain. He praised the creativity and dedication of the participants in promoting the message of cleanliness and waste management. He stated that “This initiative reflects not only the talent of our students but also the university’s commitment to sustainability and the larger mission of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign”.
Dr. Neeta Rani, Dr. Kiran and Lt Dr. Pankaj Mehta coordinated the event, ensuring its success. The fashion show, which brought innovative designs to the runway, stood as a testament to the power of upcycling and the potential of turning discarded materials into something beautiful and purposeful.Prof. Ritu Bakshi and Dr. Nancy Mengi graced the event as judges.The nodal officer for the event, Prof. Richa Kothari, commended the efforts of both the organizers and participants, noting how the show effectively merged fashion with an environmental cause. The designs, ranging from accessories to everyday wearable outfits, were all made from materials that would otherwise end up in landfills, including plastic bottles, paper, fabric scraps, and other non-biodegradable waste.The fashion show not only entertained but also delivered a powerful message of sustainability, echoing the principles of the Swachhata Hi Seva2024 campaign and reinforcing the importance of waste reduction and environmental stewardship. The event was widely appreciated by students, and faculty.
