Fisheries deptt ensures elaborate arrangements for fish availability on Shivratri
JAMMU, MARCH 8: The Department of Fisheries has made adequate arrangement for supplying and ensuring sufficient quantity of different species of fresh fish across the Union Territory among the common masses in general and Pandit Community in particular as per instructions of Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, on the auspicious occasion of Shivratri.
On the occasion, the department established number of stalls in every district besides gearing up Departmental Fish Rearing Units, Sale Centres as well. The mobile vans were also pressed into service for delivery of fresh fish at the door points of consumers. Besides, Trout fish was also transported through refrigerated vehicles at wholesale fish Marketing Centre Narwal Jammu and other centres for the people. A total of 8.810 MT of trout/carb fresh live fish was provided to all the customers.
Pertinently, the private fish farmers established by the department throughout the UT, also contributed equally in delivering sufficient quantity of fish available on this occasion in their respective area under the overall command and control of the department. The production of fish through private farmers has significantly increased over few years and the department has been able to provide employment to many new entrepreneurs.
The Department is making all efforts for rejuvenation of fish aquaculture in the Union Territory and number of new initiatives are being taken under Holistic Agriculture Development programme besides other schemes to create employment opportunities at larger scale and also meet out the demand of Fish.
Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Shailendra Kumar, and Director Fisheries, Deep Raj, also extended warm wishes to the people on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
