Floriculture Directorate organises workshop on ‘Protection against Sexual Harassment at Workplace’
JAMMU, JANUARY 30: Directorate of Floriculture, Parks & Gardens, in collaboration with NGO SUPPORT on Tuesday conducted a day long workshop on ‘ Protection against Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ at its premises at HarkiPouri Jammu.
Dr. Navneet Kour, founder Chairperson of NGO SUPPORT, Creative Self-Employed Entrepreneurs Cooperative Ltd & Certified POSH trainer and a representative of protection against Sexual Harassment Committee with the Social Welfare department J&K, chaired the workshop as the Keynote speaker.
She drew attention towards the declining trend in reporting harassment cases. “One of the reasons, she felt, behind this trend is the concern related to their safety at workplace. She expressed her concern over the increasing cases of sexual violence against women/girls. She educated the participants of Internal Complaints Committee & the women attendees of the workshop with the POSH Act and imparted awareness on their rights.
Dr Kour enlightened the members with her field experiences, made the audience aware of the prevailing issues at the workplace and society in general and underlined the solutions thereof.
She added that the need of the hour is to ensure safety of women at workplace and involve the Social Welfare Department to conduct such awareness & training campaigns in all the departments, schools, colleges and Universities.
Dr. Kour and Resource Person, Mahajbeen Nabi- an Eminent Social Activist elaborated on their experience of working with different verticals in the social development sector.
The Members of the Committee were imparted training in dealing with the complaints of sexual harassment by Dr Kour.
The focal points where the Workshop touched upon included, awareness about incidence of sexual harassment at workplace, understanding of the POSH Act, behaviours that are actionable under the POSH Act, compliances and penalties and mock trials.
The participants were given certificates and Mementoes were presented to the guest speakers.
The workshop concluded with vote of thanks presented by Gurneet Kour.
