Forest Division Udhampur conducts plantation drive at 87 Mountain Brigade Garhi
UDHAMPUR, January 02: Forest Division Udhampur today organized a plantation drive at 87, Mountain Brigade, Garhi, Northern Command to mark New Year 2023.
The ceremonial plantation drive was inaugurated by Brigadier Ananjay Singh, Commander along with Rushal Garg, DFO Udhampur. The plantation drive will be carried out till 6th Jan 2023 during which 551 fruit bearing and ornamental saplings will be planted.
Briefing the media persons, the DFO said the department is striving to achieve 66 % green cover in JK as mandated by National Forest Policy, 1988. “Currently JK has 54% forest cover and the plantation targets of JKFD are in line with achieving 66% forest cover” he added.
Brigadier Ananjay assured JKFD of continuous collaboration to increase the green cover of the UT. Discussions were also held on the India led global mass movement life (lifestyle for environment) wherein citizens should be nudged towards leading an environment conscious lifestyle . Life puts individual and collective duty on everyone to live a life that is in tune with earth and does not harm it. Brigadier and DFO called on the audience to align their actions towards mindful and deliberate utilisation of resources instead of mindless and destructive consumption to protect and preserve the environment. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks to the Northern Command of the Indian Army.
