Forest Division Udhampur seizes 82 planks of deodar at Sira Morh Latti

UDHAMPUR, MARCH 20: In a major crackdown on illegal smuggling of timber, a team of Udhampur Forest Division seized 82 planks of deodar, a Tata 207 vehicle bearing registration no. JK14H-2399 used for smuggling, banned chainsaw and axe from Swami Raj S/o Krishan Lal R/o Sira Morh Latti here today.

The raid was carried out for 6 hours under the supervision of DFO Udhampur, Rushal Garg  who acted on specific input and rushed to the spot along with Range Officer Dudu, Ayush Gupta and  personnel from Territorial Forest Division Udhampur, J&K Police and Forest Protection Force, Udhampur executed the raid. The timber smuggler, Swami Raj,who is a habitual offender, has been arrested.

DFO stated that the Dudu-Latti area is being promoted for eco-tourism, and any notorious element trying to destroy the beauty of the pristine forests in the area by smuggling green gold deodar would not be spared.

 This successful operation sends a clear message to the smugglers that the J&K Forest Department is committed to protecting the forest and its natural resources. The J&K Forest Department appeals to the public to support its efforts in preserving the ecological balance of the region.
