From Harry Potter to Daddy Cool: 4 Times New Dad Daniel Radcliffe Nailed His Father Roles on Screen

Daniel Radcliffe is best known for playing the boy wizard Harry Potter in the blockbuster franchise, but he’s also proven himself as a versatile actor who can take on different roles and genres. And now he’s taken on his most challenging role yet: being a dad.

The 33-year-old star recently welcomed his first child with his partner of more than a decade, Erin Darke, who is also an actress. The couple announced their pregnancy in March and gave birth to their baby today. We’re sure they’re over the moon.

Daniel and Erin met on the set of the 2013 film Kill Your Darlings, where they played lovers who had a complicated relationship. The film followed the early lives of some of the most influential figures of the Beat Generation, such as Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs. Daniel played the acclaimed poet Allen Ginsberg, while Erin played Gwendolyn.

The couple has been notoriously private about their relationship, making rare red carpet appearances together and keeping their personal lives out of the spotlight. But they have been supportive of each other’s careers and have gushed about each other in interviews.

Daniel once told People, “I’ve got a really nice life. I’ve been with my girlfriend for a decade pretty much.” Erin also told The Telegraph, “He’s incredibly supportive and proud of me as an actor.”

While this is the first time he will be turning dad in real life, it is not the first time Daniel has played a father role on screen. In fact, he has done it several times before, showing his range and maturity as an actor. Here are some of his most memorable father roles:

The Woman in Black (2012)
Daniel played Arthur Kipps, a widowed lawyer and father of a young son, who travels to a remote village to settle the affairs of a deceased client. There he encounters a vengeful ghost of a woman in black who torments him and the locals.

What If (2013)
Daniel played Wallace, a medical school dropout and father of a nephew, who falls in love with his best friend’s cousin Chantry (Zoe Kazan), who has a boyfriend. The film explored the question of whether men and women can be just friends.

Guns Akimbo (2019)
Daniel played Miles, a video game developer and father of a daughter, who gets involuntarily enrolled in an online game that streams live death matches. He has to survive while being hunted by a ruthless killer named Nix (Samara Weaving).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)Daniel played Harry Potter, who finally defeated Lord Voldemort and married his love Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright). In the epilogue, set 19 years later, he was shown as a father of three children: James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Luna.
