GCOE organises awareness-cum-orientation program on Organ Donation

JAMMU, April 26: NSS unit of Government College of Education, Jammu, in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, organised an awareness programme on the State Organ and Tissue Transplant organization. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal, GCOE.

In the first session, Dr. Rajinder Kour delivered a lecture on RCEM approach to the students of semester 4. Students, Teachers and non teaching staff of the college participated in the program. The awareness program offered a platform to all students and faculty of the college to get aware about taking several steps to increase awareness on organ donation in the society. These include dissemination of information by SOTTO  latest technology being used by organ donation and transplant professionals everyday to save lives through transplantation.

Prof. Aekta Gupta said that transplantation saves lives of patients affected by terminal organ failures and improves quality of their life. One organ donor can save upto eight lives and help  more through organ donation.

Consultant (IEC/Media) of SOTTO J&K, Anshu Sharma informed about the recent situations of organ transplantations and NOTTO, the headquarter, which covers the various regional centres of organ transplantation.  She also spoke about the green corridors which ensure safer and quicker transfer of organs from one hospital to another by different modes of transport.

Dr. Shubhra Jamwal, NSS PO, thanked the skilled team of SOTTO with a heart melting message that an organ donor can save eight lives so our one generous act can bring many smiles.
