GCW Udhampur organises investiture ceremony

UDHAMPUR, April 15: Government Degree College for Women Udhampur today organised an Investiture Ceremony for the elected Student Council members.

The motive behind the Investiture Ceremony was to strengthen the Indian democracy since, India without a doubt is the biggest democracy in the world where the citizens exercise power by voting.

 Based on the principle of Democracy, the Students’ council was formed by the Student’s Welfare Committee of the college under the convenorship of Prof. Sumita Rao.

The student council was framed in the similar way as per the election process mentioned in our Constitution.  The members of student council including President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary etc were elected in the similar manner as the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are elected in general elections. The Principal, Prof. Monika Sharma, was the chief guest on the occasion.

In her address, she congratulated the elected council members and said that the Students Council of college represents righteousness, respect, integrity and leadership. She wished them good luck in their future endeavours and emphasized, “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are an excellent leader.”

 The worth of the badge lies in taking up responsibilities whole heartedly with a sense of pride and Self-Worth”.

 Special guest on the occasion was Beena Gandotra, mother of present president of the College.

Earlier, Prof. Sumita Rao presented a formal welcome address where she spoke about the contribution of such ceremonies in enhancing the sense of pride in the students.

Vishakha Gandotra, Sem- V (President), Swati Gandotra, Sem- III (Vice President), Manmeet Kour, Sem- V (Convenor), Shabnam, Sem -III (Secretary), Kashish Mahajan, Sem- I (Joint Secretary), Rupali Kumar, Sem- III (Treasurer), Sunila Thakur, Sem -I (Joint Treasurer), Uzma Tahir Sem- V (Gen. Secretary) and Neha Devi, Sem -V (Cultural Secretary) were congratulated for being elected as Student Presidium members for the academic year 2022-23.

The dignitaries on the dais conferred the leaders with badges and sash. Principal Monika Sharma, handed over the Torch which symbolises the light of spirit, knowledge, leadership and life, to the President. The torch relay expresses the handing down of traditions from generation to generation.      

 After this an oath ceremony was also held. The leaders took the pledge to serve the institution and fulfil their responsibilities to the best of their abilities in accordance with the vision and mission of the institution. The speeches delivered by the President and some other members of Student Council created much enthusiasm and instilled a sense of confidence and pride among all the students.

The whole proceedings were conducted by Mahvish Anwar of Sem-V.

 Among others, Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Prof. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Ashni, Prof. Sarika Mahajan, Dr. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Suneel Singh, Dr. Meena Gupta, Prof. Yash Paul, Dr. Roopa Kumari, Prof. Tania Mahajan, Prof. Rajinder Singh and Dr. Dinesh Kumar also graced the occasion. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, HOD, Philosophy.
