GCW Udhampur organizes Solo Folk Song competition

UDHAMPUR, April 15: Cultural Committee of Government College for Women Udhampur on Saturday organized a solo folk song  competition under the aegis of G-20.

The event was organized with support and guidance of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Monika Sharma. The theme of the solo folk song  competition was “Folk  Songs of   J&K”. The main aim of conducting such an activity was to share the cultural heritage and promote the traditional folk  and music of various places of Jammu and Kashmir.

In all 14 students participated in the competition. Students sang folk songs in Dogri, Gojri and Pahari languages. Their melodious voices captured the attention of every one present at the event. They harmonized the event with their mind blowing and enthralling voices.

The performance of the students was judged by  Kewal Kumar (HOD Chemistry), Prof. Shallu Jasrotia (Assistant Professor of Music) and Prof. Rekha Sharma (Assistant Professor of Dogri).

The first position was bagged by Mousmi of Sem- II, second position was clinched by  Sonia Verma of Sem-IV, third position was bagged by Naseem Akhter of Sem – VI. The consolation prizes were bagged by  Parteeksha, Mansvi Sharma  and Diksha of Sem- VI, Sem-IV , Sem-II     respectively.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by Manvi Singh and  Kristina Thakur of Sem -II.

As many as 64 students attended this cultural programme. The event was organized by Prof. (Dr.) Seema Sharma (Convener Cultural Committee), Sarika Mahajan (Assistant Professor of Electronics),  Shallu Jasrotia (Assistant    Professor of Music), Prof. Roopa Kumari (Assistant Professor of Education)  Pooja Bharti (HOD Geography), Yash Kumar (Assistant Professor of Music).

The Principal of the college Dr. Monika Sharma appreciated the students for exhibiting such wonderful performances.
